It may be a bit too late for this one, but maybe someone out there is
still frantically searching for holiday ideas. I found this great site
for snowflake patterns.

So
I had the kids (elem 5th and 6th and jhs 1st elective clas) cut out
snowflakes, and then they pasted them on construction paper. Then we
put a string through the top of the ornament.
On the back I had
the students write a new years resolution (in English or Japanese,
depending on the level). I told them it couldn't be a wish, it had to
be a goal. They were kinda confused, but when I said it was an
"American Style Kawabata (spelling?)," they seemed to understand.
Before
the lesson, I prepped them with new words, like fold, cut, half, next,
scissors, slow, careful and goal. It's important to go over the
instructions very carefully, and you should definately practice a bit
first so that you're comfortable with the process. Playing some
Christmas music in the background is a nice touch.
Be careful about what class you do this with. I did it with some very
well behaved classes, and I don't think it would work with everyone.
All the paper creates a bit of a mess.
