There is a Chiropractor near Imazu staion opposite teh conbini.  His name is Yamashita sensei and he is very good. i went with back and shoulder problems and my back is fine now.  4000 yen. Can't remember if he speaks English?

There is also Fujino sensei an accupuncturist opposite imazu JHs, again 4000 yen. He trained in China and is very good at rephrasing japanese in an easy way.  nice firm touch!  gives you a massage after.

Hatsumi and Ueda sensei know both of these, or you could also speak to Danielle or Itchaku.

Nagahama Red Cross Hospital has a great physio department - i have heard its better than the main nagahama hospital. It's about a 10-15 min walk from Nagahama staion. I met one of the physios there (through a friend) and he treated my knee.

Physical therapy in Japanese is リハビリテーション or "rehabilitation."  There's a physical therapist that advertises outside of Minami Hikone station, but I would imagine all areas have a couple of them.  You can also tell them you need 生体療法 "seitairyouhou" or chiropractic treatment.  Or you could tell them マッサージ療法 "massage ryouhou" or massage treatment if you think it's something a massage can take care of (which is often covered by insurance).

If all that fails, just have them take you to the hospital, tell the receptionist that your lower back hurts 腰痛があります "youtsu ga arimasu!" and they should point you to the right department :)

Yeah i have been to a great clinic in moriyama a bunch of times for back and neck problems, i know you are pretty far away from moriyama but dont you do aikido there or something. if you think you oculd ever make it, let me know and i can give you more info. they would usualy give me a shot that numbed some of the pain then i had massage treatments and also some traction (i think thats what its called) they held my legs down and then stretched my back and spine, the held me shoulders and stretched me neck and head.

Nagahama City Hospital has a good physiotherapy department - but only the guy who treated me two years ago used his English when helping me out. Also, when I was treated, it was in a large room with everyone else and their physiotherapist or rehabili sensei. Kind of a new thing for me.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.  I am going to try the Makino hospital here on Thursday.  Nagahama is probably the next option, so Belinda, can you tell me where the City Hospital is?

It's on Route 8.  You can take one of the bajillion 市立長浜病院 (shiritsu nagahama byouin) buses that leave from in front of Nagahama Station ;)

I think Kyle gave you good directions but to help put where it is in perspective, it's about half way between Tamura and Nagahama JR stations, out on Route 8 (as Kyle said). It's a whitish/grey building that is about 7 stories high and near a new indoor sports/Internet fun center. If you want any more details, let me know. Good luck with it all.

My school set me up with Nagahama hospital for a knee operation a while back and from there my follow ups were taken care of by their physio department. I'm not sure what the deal is about just turning up - especially if you have limited Japanese as most of the people you will deal with first, in my experience there, don't use a lot of English. Maybe call the hospital (yourself/JTE/Japanese friend) and ask for 'Rehabili' and then try and set up a day and general time when it is best to turn up.

I think I know the konbini you're talking about.  I will check that out if I need to.  I have a connection to a therapist here who uses AK  anybody ever heard of it?  Also, if anybody else has had an SI joint injury, or an ilium upslip I'd love to hear about your experience.

Does acupuncture seriously cost that much here? I used to get it done (plus a shiatsu massage) for only 400 yen per half hour session in Fukuoka. I even had a special page in my insurance booklet for it.
